Should I replace My Foam Humidifier?

By Drew Danson

When you first start purchasing your cigar accessories, one item that will be of high importance will be the humidor of course. This humidor is vital to preserving your cigars so that you can truly enjoy their taste and flavor. This is because the humidor creates a constant environment of controlled levels of humidity. This humidity keeps the flavor locked within the tobacco. This is why it is so important that you purchase and understand the humidor thoroughly. There are many parts to the humidor that you will need to understand because you will need to perform routine maintenance on them. One such part is the foam humidifier. Of course, without a humidifier, it would be quite hard for the humidor to work.

If you are overwhelmed by all of these accessories, then the simple thing to do is simply consider each part one at a time. That is why you will just want to think about the foam humidifier for now. That is because you will need to eventually replace it. This is simply because there will be a time when the humidifier wears out. There are other parts of the cigar humidifier that will need to be maintenance, but the foam will be something you will want to watch carefully. This is because it is the foam that keeps the humid environment in the humidor.

Just how do you know when that foam humidifier needs to be replaced? Like many cigar accessories, there are certain signs that will immediately give away the fact that maintenance needs to be done. In the case of the foam, you simply need to watch for it wearing out.

The second way to tell that you need to replace the foam will be when it will not soak up the water solution properly. Over time, as the foam in the humidor begins to wear out, it will not soak up as well, much like an old worn out sponge. You may have more problems getting the foam to take the water. It may be a gradual sign or it may happen fairly quickly. No matter the case, when you notice the foam is not soaking well, this is a good sign that you need to replace it.

It can be easy to overlook the need to replace the foam humidifier. However, to keep your humidor in peak condition, you need to keep a watchful eye out on this. If you look for the above two signs, you should have no problem noticing when the foam is starting to go bad.
