Trekking Holidays Europe

By Terry Brennar

Although it may not be your idea to go on a Star Trek, going to one of those trekking holidays Europe is something that is fun to do. Not only is this a great way of exploring "the old country" but walking or bicycling around Europe is a wonderful way to travel. This is because almost all European countries have a wide variety of interesting architecture and cultures. What is more interesting is the fact that you can even do some parts of this tour as a side trip during a singles cruise, or other types of vacations.

These kinds of treks are a great way to meet like-minded people, as well. Seeing Europe from foot or a bicycle while you're on a holiday adventure, is a much more intimate way to sightsee. You could stay in a mountain hut on Mount Blanc, which is Europe's highest peak. Another wonderful holiday can be spent amongst Corsicans. The Corsicans are French, with an Italian influence and the base for this trekking adventure starts in the beautiful village of Bocognano.

If you're enjoying a trekking holidays Europe vacation then it may include The Pyrenees. Walk along high mountain ridges and through wonderful meadows and go from hut to hut for your overnight stays. You can see glacial lakes and easy to climb summits at Aigues National Park. There's a network of pathways running across Europe for trekkers (not necessarily Star Trek aficionados), hikers, walkers and ramblers (not the old American car!).

In case you are wondering whether you can walk from sunny Portugal to mysterious Hungary, the answer is yes. Treks of all types are available as extensions and stop-overs during a singles cruise or other types of vacation. To pick your routes easily, there are easy-to-understand maps available. This is where the GPS also comes in hand and with such useful devices, you won't get lost as long as you can locate that satellite! You however need an old fashioned map as a backup.

One interesting route in Spain is called the Route of Peace, and this incorporates places that were in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939. Barcelona, (handy if you are off the ship), has many walks that you can do in a day. The city has unique architecture, history, gardens, monuments, and many other things. The U.K. is a prime spot for walking tours and treks, with its home port of London and history dating back to Ancient Roman times, and many years before that as well. The British Museum is site of the Rosetta Stone, which was crucial to deciphering of Egyptian Hieroglyphics.

As you can see, there are always many choices for your trekking holidays Europe no matter whether you are just off a singles cruise or want to make a longer detour. You can even make arrangements to incorporate both elements in your vacation.
