The Most Popular Stops On Washington DC Class Trips

By Karla Harris

The District of Columbia, otherwise referred to as Washington D. C., is a small district near the state of Maryland that acts as the capital of America. The district's creation was allowed by the country's Constitution and later approved by their Congress in the late seventeen hundreds. The capital is home to many monuments, headquarters, museums, and historical markers that are often the subject of DC class trips, taken by the local school children of the surrounding cities.

Out of all the historical sites and buildings in Washington DC, the Washington Monument is, perhaps, the most famous. The iconic structure is situated on the western end of the National Mall and is visited by over eight hundred thousand visitors each year.

The District of Columbia also happens to be the working physical residence of the president of America. The White House, as it is called, was built in the early eighteen hundreds and has been home to all the presidents since Adams. The White House is a very popular tourist attraction and tours are available to a limited number of people each day.

The Lincoln Memorial is yet another popular spot. It is named after the sixteenth president of the United States and its most iconic aspect is its massive lifelike statue of Abe Lincoln, located in the building's central hall. The cherished monument was designed by Daniel Chester French, a sculptor from America, who carved it out of marble from Georgia.

No DC field trip to the country's capital would be finished without a long trip to the National Archives and Records Administration. Situated on the north end in the Mall, the structure is home to many of the nation's most important historical documents like the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and a confirmed issue Britain's Magna Carta.

Home to over five hundred million rock, plant, fossil, and meteorite specimens, the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History is another favorite field trip destination. With sections devoted to subjects like dinosaurs, butterflies, and osteology, its sure to be a great experience for visitors of all ages.
