Visiting The Hacienda Iguana Nicaragua

By Lana Bray

If you love golfing on the beach and topping up your suntan, think about going to Hacienda Iguana Nicaragua. It sits directly on the shoreline, which is great if you want to surf or just sip cocktails and gaze out at the horizon. It even has it own golf course.

A vegetarian lizard called the iguana lives in the countries of Central America and Mexico. Taxonomically speaking, it is a member of the Iguanidae family. Nose to tail, it measures between four and six feet in length. Along its back lies a row of spiny processes called the dewlap. Another distinguishing mark of this reptile is its third eye, called a parietal eye.

Present in other species of animal including frogs, tuna and certain species of shark, the function of the parietal eye is to detect and interact with light. While it bears both a lens and retina, it functions differently from a typical mammalian eye. Evidence from the fossil record indicates that certain now extinct species of reptile bore a parietal eye. These include some of the dinosaurs.

One of the countries where this particular member of the Iguanidae clan is found is in Nicaragua, in Central America. Located on the Isthmus of Central America, the tiny country is bounded to the south by Costa Rica and by Honduras on its northern side. Plans are being made to construct a massive canal, far bigger and grander than the one at Panama, in this country. It will most likely be financed by sources in China.

The country sits neatly within the tropics between 11 and 14 degrees north of the equator. The equator is a make-believe line of latitude that separates the northern hemisphere from the southern hemisphere. The tropics is an area bounded by lines of latitude 23.4 degrees north and south of the equator.

The tropics are defined by the Tropic of Cancer to the north and the Tropic of Capricorn to the south. This area is a magnet for tourists every year because of its amazingly wonderful climate. All year round, the temperature remains higher than 64 deg Fahrenheit.

A movie about family Iguanidae was made in 1964. It was based on a play penned by playwright Tennessee Williams. The film starred Deborah Kerr, Richard Burton and Ava Gardner. The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in this film was won by actress Grayson Hall, who wen ton to become a major character in the cult soap, Dark Shadows. No members of the Iguanidae family were harmed during the making of this movie.

Hacienda iguana nicaragua is a place to visit in Central America on the isthmus that separates the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It is nestled within the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer and, partly because of its amazing climate, is a terrific place to visit any time of year. If you visit to hacienda iguana nicaragua, try to look out for one of the Iguanidae family. Visit hacienda iguana nicaragua if you like to play golf, go surfing or just relax at the seaside.
