Reasons to visit Airlie Beach in August

By John Nayler

Introduction

August signals the start of the true tourist season in Airlie Beach. The weather turns the corner and a number of events celebrate the season and conditions.

The Vibe For August

The atmosphere comes good in August, as tourists and yacht racing boats start to arrive. Fun Race, Airlie Beach Race Week, festivals and more are typically in August. The Locals are seen to be more active at this time and are joined by sailors and tourists to bring the town alive. Overnight it seems the change take hold.

Weather in August

Years of weather recording show that a magic wand is waved by the weather gods on the first of August. While Southern Australian locations get some of the coldest weather of the year, Airlie almost always enjoys light winds and warmer air temperatures for the first week of August, a change and then more light wind conditions. While the water temperature is only slightly on the rise, the warmer sun on the skin makes increased desire to swim.

Prices for August

August is a time of higher occupancy with only small gaps between the festivals and sailing events. During the events and sailing, you can expect trouble finding available rooms. As expected this means that the prices for accommodation and experiences tends toward standard pricing. Is there is any advice, it is to book early and look for deals on longer stays. Fitting into gaps in availability will also tend to win favour for discounts.

August Risks

August is the signal time for the water temperatures to start increasing. Irukandji and Box Jellyfish risk is still low, but in the coming months it will be time to think about the warnings... The wetsuit is also required less. The stinger threat is still very low at this time of year. Marine professionals can give the right advice on these matters.

August Summary

Airlie Beach is on its way to summer and this evident everywhere you look in August. Be sure to pack your bikini and sunblock and get set for a great time. There is plenty to do and plenty of people around so you are invited to come and enjoy the good times.
