Gorgeous Localities That Can Be Enjoyed In Central London

By John Winter

There are fabulously beautiful, expensive and luxurious hotels in London like the one where Miss Marple spent a famous holiday. Those are the sorts of places elderly lady detectives like to stay while discovering scandals and crimes hidden behind the calm facade. But some people prefer to spend their vacation budget getting out and seeing and doing rather than on their lodgings. For those people who prefer a cheap London hotel has options.

The Capital of the UK isn't the cheapest city in the world. Unless you are an elderly spinster who really cares about the perfect poached egg you would probably rather be spending money on things other than your lodgings. If you are only going to be using your london kings cross hotel as a place to sleep and shower there is no sense in investing a lot of money in it.

Central London is a great area for many reasons. Business travelers come here because it is an important modern financial district. But it also has many historic attractions.

One has only to walk through the central city to come face-to-face with street names and landmarks that have been made famous in books, films, songs and poems. Look for names like Fleet Street, historic home of the British press and the murderous barber, Sweeney Todd. Harley Street continues to be the preferred address of members of the medical profession. Baker Street was made famous as the dwelling place of the famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.

The British Museum, the National Gallery, the Tate Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum are world famous. One of the most historic and fabled locations is the infamous Tower of London. Once a prison, now the Tower is an impressive museum with exhibits that include the legendary Crown Jewels.

In addition to the big famous museums there are many smaller museums that cater to a variety of interests. Fans of comic art will enjoy the Cartoon Museum, just a short walk from the British Museum. And of course Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts won't want to miss 221B Baker Street the home of the Sherlock Holmes Museum.

Madame Tussauds legendary Wax Museum is still located on Marleybone Road where it has been since 1884. It's a short walk from the Baker Street tube station. The exhibits have changed over the years but visitors still enjoy posing next to their favorite celebrities past and present.

London has beautiful architecture, parks, gardens and shops as well as museums and galleries. But it also has an exciting night life. The Soho district, though cleaned up and newly fashionable since the 1980s, still retains some of what made it notorious in early years. Clubs and bars serve the latest music and shows that range from racy to raunchy. Prince Harry has been known to visit some of the livelier nightspots in the area.

For finding cheap hotels London is not the the most obvious place to look. But there are reasonably price lodgings near all the major attractions. You just have to look for them. An online search is a good place to start. Find out where other travelers have stayed and what they recommend.
