Imagine:
Stunning Costa Rica beaches on its Caribbean coast.
World-renowned surfing.
Glorious swimming beaches.
Loads of other fun activities to enjoy on your Costa Rica vacation during the day.
Go snorkeling, scuba diving or fishing for some very big fish.
Explore the forest on wildlife hikes or go horseback riding.
All a part of Puerto Viejo vacations in Costa Rica.
Ever played polo--on a Costa Rica beach? You can do it here!
On your Costa Rica vacation.
Spend quiet time at night turtle-watching or dance till you drop (or hook up) at the hottest discos on the Caribbean coast (many are open all night and do not truly get going till past midnight).
Eat at a wide assortment of restaurants serving everything from Tico faves to world cuisine. If you like eclectic, here you go!
And you will meet a lot of characters, real characters.
When many tourists think of Puerto Viejo they think about Costa Rica surfing. It's legendary among surfers and a favourite trip to Costa Rica.
From November thru April, the tiny town is sometimes stuffed with surfers. The professionalshead for the world-famous three-mile long La Salsa Brava wave while beginners and intermediates can have plenty of fun surfing at nearby Playa Cocles.
But don't stop at Puerto Viejo if you want really long, truly astounding Costa Rica beaches: some white, others coral colored or even grey, and of course, some even black .
You will enjoy mile-after-mile of them, palms on one side, azure tropical water on the other.
When is the best time to visit? Well, it's warm and tropical year round, tons of sun but the "dry season" (for lack of a better description ) is typically February, March, June, September and October (these last 2 months are sometimes among the wettest for the rest of the country).
And, while you are traveling its Caribbean coast, take one or two extra days to head north to world famous Tortuguero National Park, the western hemisphere's largest green sea turtle preserve.
Or, take a short drive to Panama. Only a short distance from Puerto Viejo, you can cross into Panama and stay a few days in cabanas on the water, literally, at fantastic Boca del Toro.
Oh, one thing more. As you drive from Puerto Viejo toward Panama, you'll pass the very beach where a certain explorer, a fellow called Columbus, dropped anchor 500 years ago and gave the land its name: Costa Rica.

About the Author:
While in Puerto Viejo, there is a wonderful small Costa Rica beach hotel, La Perla Negra. Strongly recommended. Regardless of what your fancy, whether fishing, eco tourism, medical care mixed with a great vacation, there's a great Costa Rica vacation waiting for you.
